Startup Checklist -

We have provided you a list of things you need to check for when you first use the DST501 hardware and software. Going through this list will ensure proper operation of the DSM in the future.

1. Clock and Output Connections

Before powering up the DST501, you will first need to connect two clock sources to the module. Connect a 2.0 Ghz clock signal to the SMA marked "DDSCK" with a power level of about 3 dBm. This is the DDS input clock source. Connect a 4 to 7 GHz clock signal to the SMA marked "LO" with a power level of about 9 dbm. This is the carrier frequency source. Connect you spectrum analyzer to the SMA marked "OUT". This is the analog output of the DST501. Optionally, you can connect your oscilloscope to the "MARKER1" SMA to view the marker output.

2. Connecting the Power

We have provided you with a 12 VDC wall adapter to power the DST501 module. Connect the adapter to a wall outlet and connect the power jack to the power connector on the board. Do NOT connect the USB cable at this time. You will connect the cable later after you have installed the software.

3. Initial Startup Waveform

In order to see the startup waveform, you must connect the "FPGA0" SMA to 3.3 V. The "FPGA0" SMA acts like a startup waveform enable. When it is connected to GND, the startup waveform will NOT be output. If "FPGA0" is connected to 3.3 V, the startup waveform will be output. The startup waveform does need some time to load. For longer waveforms you may need to wait several minutes before it is output.

Our initial startup waveform is a short upper-sideband chirp from 125 MHz to 250 MHz of the carrier frequency. If you can see the waveform correctly then you can go on to install the software. If you can see a waveform but it does not look correct, try disconnecting the power jack and then connecting it again. If after a few tries the waveform still does not show up correctly then you will need to contact us for troubleshooting. Likewise, if you do not see any waveform at all then you will also need to contact us.

4. Software Installation

Please download the Setup Files and follow the instructions detailed on the Software Setup page of the manual. Please be sure to also check the Software Requirements page.
